Our Purpose

Our main purpose and goal is to always stay student-focused. Our students come first. No matter the challenges we face, our students and their best interests remain of the utmost importance. Education plays a key role in the foundation for a full and happy life, and we do our best to make that foundation strong and sustainable.

Our History

We’ve heard it said “there’s no place like home,” and Kern County is just that—home. We can’t imagine life without sights like the Kern River Campground or our local Kern County neighborhood parks at our fingertips.

El Tejon USD has a rich history! We started strong and have continued to grow and expand ever since. With nearly 150 years of experience in providing a quality education to our community, our district has stood the test of time.

El Tejon Middle School, which sits on the property of Tejon Ranch across from Fort Tejon, was first established as a small elementary school in 1876. As the mountain community grew over the years, so did our district. Then came Frazier Park Elementary School, which you’ll find nestled in the mountains of Frazier Park. These were the only two schools within the mountain communities for many years. As students reached high school, they had to be bused to either Bakersfield or Maricopa to attend school. Finally, in the early 1990s, the community rallied together to build a high school of its own within the ETUSD district. In 1995, over 100 years after our district was founded, Frazier Mountain High School opened its doors. Now ETUSD proudly serves grades TK through 12.
